The tenacious wait is finally over. Frenetic screams of fans could be heard already on social media platforms. The trailer of Yennai Arindhaal has been finally release as a New Year gift to film buffs from the team amidst unrivalled fan frenzy and a screaming euphoria. So, how has the 1:51 min long trailer fared? Let’s discuss briefly.
The singular most surprising moment of the trailer happened when the name of acclaimed director Thiagarajan Kumararajan of ‘Aaranya Kaandam’ fame appeared in the credits. It has been the talk of the town ever since. Apparently, Thiagarajan Kumararaja has co-written the screenplay with Shridhar Ragavan.
The trailer kickstarts exactly at the frame of the most high-octane moment of the teaser (ஒரு நாள் வாழ்க்கை என்ன ஒருத்தனா மாத்துச்சு. என்னை அறிந்தால்!, Remember?). Gangsta Ajith walking with the gun.
The score of Adhaaru Adhaaru thrums in the background and flags off the trailer in style. ‘Vaa Raja Vaa Vaa’ (Ajith comes majestically in the bullet). Check.
A blink-and-miss shot of Parvathy Nair and Arun Vijay in a marriage shot at Church. Another face of Arun Vijay, the protagonist face revealed. Check.
A flurry of intercuts with Anushka, Trisha, Ajith and Arun Vijay in jail, cozy moments of Hemanika & Sathyadev, Arun Vijay & Parvathy Nair shown tastefully. Check
A witty one-liner for Vivek also finds a place.
Music shifts gears to dappan koothu. RAW shots follow. And, Ajith punches someone in the face and knocks him down in the boxing ring. And, the Thiagarajan Kumararaja moment arrives.
Salt-and-pepper looks in close-up shots. Arun Vijay trying to escape from a chase/encounter/ambush. Stunt Silva also appears in a brief role, it looks like. Ajith grooves madly with Arun Vijay and gracefully with ‘Vivekh’ later.
Thala also says GET THE F**K OUT. And, walks off briskly with the hoodie.
Curtains down.
Overall, the trailer is intriguing with the first one minute showing a lot of class and the last few seconds displaying raw, mass shots of Ajith and Arun Vijay. It ups the ante? More than that. It piques the curiosity? Does it in style. Editor Anthony’s blazing cuts and Dan Macarthur’s exquisite frames take the icing.
And, yes the trailer does leave you wanting for more.
