‘Yaan’ Plagiarism: Elred Kumar resorts to legal action against Ravi K Chandran

Cinematographer Ravi K Chandran recently debuted as a director with Jiiva and Thulasi Nair-starrer Yaan, which failed miserably at the box-office. However, a recent video which is going rounds on social media platform alleges that Ravi K Chandran has lifted the story from the oscar-winning Hollywood film Midnight Express which released in 1978. The video juxtaposes scenes from both films and even the camera angles in few scenes look similar.

“Ravi K Chandran had told us that he was inspired by a real-life incident and had written the script a few years earlier and had registered the script with the writers’ association, which we got confirmed before starting shoot. We are consulting legal experts on how to move forward. We have also approached the Tamil Film Producers’ Council to discuss this,” says Elred Kumar. Elred Kumar is worried that if the Hollywood studio who produced Midnight Express will file a lawsuit against him for blatantly plagiarising their film.
