Director Bala is known for his intelligent choice of actors for supporting roles in his films. Sivakumar in Sethu, Rajkiran in Nanda, Sangeetha in Pithamagan stand testimony to the same. For his upcoming film Thaarai Thappattai starring Sasikumar and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar in lead roles, Bala seems to have approached Mohanlal for an important role but the latter turned down the offer. It is said that Mohanlal was so happy upon receiving a call from Bala but a leg injury ruled out his chances of being part of the film.
Thaarai Thappattai revolves around Karagattaam, a traditional dance form of Tamils. It marks Ilaiyaraja’s 1000th film in the industry and a grand audio launch is being planned to honor the legend for his illustrious achievement. RK Suresh, the managing director of Studio 9 productions, essays the antagonist role in the film.
