Ajith’s Vivegam which has been rocking the Chennai city with extraordinary numbers has performed below par in the US box office. The dismal performance in the US despite receiving a huge release with a whopping 300 screens comes as a surprise.
The movie has grossed $452,263 in the opening weekend and exhibitors have been reportedly expecting a huge drop in the coming weekdays due to the surge of mixed reviews, that are said to influence the US market. Vivegam has to collect nearly $700-750K to break even in the United States, which seems to be very unlikely.
Meanwhile, the prospects are not rosy at the UK box office either. The four-day opening weekend gross of the film in the UK stands at £ 107K, which is less than his 2013 release Arrambam which minted £ 135K. The movie reportedly needs to collect GBP 175K in the UK to break even and the exhibitors spell a losing venture.
