Vishwaroopam banned in TN for 15 Days
Ulaga Nayagan Kamal Haasan’s eagerly awaited Vishwaroopam which was to release this Friday (January 25), has been banned for 15 days in Tamil Nadu! The TN government citing ‘law and order’ reasons suspended its screening by a fortnight.
24 Muslim organizations and political parties, under the banner of ‘Federation of Muslim Organisations’, met home secretary R Rajagopal at the secretariat on Wednesday. “The film is aimed at tarnishing Islam and Muslims. Its release is bound to disturb communal harmony,” said Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam leader and MLA M H Jawahirullah. “The chief minister was concerned the film could aggravate the law and order situation in the state and sought views of senior officials. It was then decided that the film would be banned for two weeks,” said a senior government official.
Post this issue, its clueless that Vishwaroopam’s Telugu & Hindi releases can hit the screens on Jan 25th & Feb 1st or not respectively. The DTH release which was slated for Feb 2nd is also likely to get affected if the delay is retained.
Initially Vishwaroopam was scheduled to hit the screens on Jan 11th but considering the request of Theater Association Leaders on the DTH screening, it was pushed to Jan 25th if mentioned. The advance booking for Vishwaroopam was outstanding. Tickets sold out like hot cakes and attain House Full in major multiplexes. Now the theater owners had requested fans to wait till 3 PM today (Jan 24th) regarding the refund amount on advance bookings.
