Vetrimaran’s Visaranai is based on ‘Lock-up’ novel series

National award-winning filmmaker Vetrimaaran’s next film Visaranai is based on the novel series Lock-Up written by M Chandrakumar. Fondly called as Auto Chandran, he wrote the novel based on his prison experiences when he was mistakenly arrested by police while wandering the villages of Andhra Pradesh and the heart-wrenching stories he heard from fellow convicts. The film, featuring Attakathi Dinesh in the lead role as a convict, has only three days of shooting left.

Vetrimaaran shot few portions of Visaranai in the premises of Balu Mahendra’s Cinema Pattarai as a tribute to his guru. Samuthirakani essays the pivotal role of a cop in the film which is said to be an experimental crime thriller and only one-hour long. After completing Visaranai, Vetrimaaran will kicktstart Soodhadi with Dhanush.

Interestingly, Chandrakumar has also written a novel on the communist leader P. Jeevanandham, on whose name one of the lead characters in Vijay – AR Murugadoss’s Kaththi is based on.
