Veteran musician-actor Meesai Murugesan passes away
Veteran actor-musician I.S. Murugesh, popularly known as Meesai Murugesan, passed away at the age of 87. The last rites will be performed for his funeral in Chennai tomorrow. He was bestowed Kalaimamani by the Tamil Nadu state government for his work. He started his career by playing the ‘Kottankuchi’ (coconut shell), alongside great musicians like K.P. Sundarambal, M.K.T. Bhagavathar, T.M. Soundarajan and Seerkazhi Govindarajan. He has also played instruments for composers like MS Viswanathan, Ilayaraja and Kunnakudi Vaidyanathan.
As an actor, his career spans more than 100 films and he is famous for his roles in Vijay’s Poove Unakkaga, Kamal Haasan – K Balachander’s Unnal Mudiyum Thambi, Sathyraj’s Amaidhi Padai, Pandiyaraj’s Aan Paavam, Sugamaana Raagangal and much more.
