Director Vijay has perfectly balanced a fine mix of comedy and action in Vanamagan, which brims with hilarious comedy sequences in the first half and some superbly staged action scenes in the second half.

The plot revolves around a simple question. Who is the better human? Those who have access to all the materialistic things and technological advancements or those who still live in a by-gone era deprived of any luxury.

Vijay has finally found a knack to appease both mainstream audiences and serious cinema lovers. Except for a lag of some twenty minutes in the second half, including the Pachai Uduthiye song, the flow is maintained throughout the story with nice transitions and skilfully constructed surprises. There are some brilliant directorial touches of Vijay, which are inserted beautifully in the screenplay without disturbing the story.

Jayam Ravi has given his heart and soul to the film, enacting the role of a stone-faced tribal to mere perfection. He is equally good in both action and comedy scenes and delivers one of his career-best performances.

Debutante Sayyeshaa rocks with confidence and delivers a lovely performance. One can safely say that she’s one of the best dancers Tamil cinema has witnessed in the last decade or so. She can emote well, dance admirably and lip-sync with a near-flawless perfection. She’s here to stay.
