Yesterday, we had reported that Tamil Nadu Multiplex and Theater Owners Association has proposed a new share percentage for Tamil actors based on three categories divided as Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3.
While A-list stars like Rajinikanth, Ajith, and Vijay form the first tier, Tier 2 consists of Suriya, Jayam Ravi, Dhanush, STR, and Vijay Sethupathi. The rest of the actors, including Kamal Haasan, Vikram, Karthi, and Vishal have been featured in Tier 3. Fans of actors like Kamal Haasan, Vikram, Karthi, and Vishal are appalled to see their stars categorized in Tier 3.
In a recent interview, veteran distributor Tiruppur Subramaniam has apologized to Chiyaan Vikram and Karthi for leaving out their names. “We have earned a lot of money from Vikram and Karthi’s hit films. Recently too, Kadaikutty Singam made a lot of money. It was a mistake on our part to leave out their names. It shouldn’t have happened,” he said.
In the first week, A center theaters will give 60% revenue to the distributors for films of actors in Tier 1 whereas theaters in B and C centers will give 65% revenue for the same. For the first week, ‘A’ center theaters will provide a share of 55% for actors of Tier 2 and Tier 3 actors’ films will fetch 50% share from theaters.
