Technical Aspects

Gently absorbing tale

Overall, Thodari was set right with its casting and technical aspects, but it has been let down by the narration and the illogical scenarios with every passing scene. It's a basic attempt from Prabhu Solomon, who had committed mistakes right from the writing stage. His efforts can be lauded, that's about it.

Prabhu Solomon’s Thodari lives up to its limited hype of being the first film to be completely shot on a train. Be it songs, action, comics or anything else – it all happens within the vicinity of a train. The director who is known for making films handling objects, has picked up a train this time and revolves his story and characters around it.

The first half of the movie spends time introducing many characters and it certainly consumes a lot of time doing that. Dhanush acts as Poochiappan, a pantry worker in a train that travels from Delhi to Chennai and along with him is Karunakaran and others managed by Thambi Ramaiah. As a regular customer of Prabhu Solomon’s script he solely handles the reason for the giggles and does well. Dhanush being a simple common man who has nothing big to aim wants a loving partner and settle down as a family, his quest for his ambition goes in vain and at this particular journey he happens to meet Keerthi Suresh, a touch-up girl who is the lead heroine and falls in love at first sight.

RV Udhayakumar, pilot of the train who is also in his last trip as he is about to retire aims for a pleasant journey. But in turn, he has a cardiac arrest and falls on the accelerator lever making the train attain its full speed. Not aware of this, the crowded train is been looted by some burglars on the way and the fact that the train does not stop at the station happens to be suspected as a hijack by terrorists.

As a Central Minister, Radha Ravi also travels on the same train, adding more spice for the media. It is forced to be promoted that the train is under the terrorists control and the entire nation seems to keep a eye on the issue that is made viral on the social platforms and news headlines. Meanwhile, Keerthy Suresh and Dhanush pass on a gentle romance which happens to be opposed by Harish Uthaman, a commando who is in charge for taking care of Central Minister Radha Ravi. For no cause Dhanush and Harish Uthaman oppose each other and Keerthy Suresh targeted by Harish happens to land on the engine on a chase. The media soon turns their eye on her and suspects her to be head of the terrorists and when later the condition of the pilot is known, chaos starts. How the train is stopped, what happens to the leads & passengers is the climax which takes a huge time to witness.

Thodari was set right with its casting and technical aspects, but it has been let down by the narration and the illogical scenarios with every passing scene. It’s a basic attempt from Prabhu Solomon, who had committed mistakes right from the writing stage. His efforts can be lauded, that’s about it.
