Thirumavalavan urges Rajinikanth to drop Sri Lanka visit
VCK (‘Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi’) leader Thol. Thirumavalavan has urged Superstar Rajinikanth to drop his Sri Lanka visit to participate in an event organized by Lyca Group’s Gnanam Foundation.
According to a statement released by Raju Mahalingam, Creative Head of Lyca Productions, Rajinikanth was supposed to attend a two-day-long event in Jaffna, Sri Lanka to present 150 homes to displaced Tamils on April 9th and 10th.
“I have no personal agenda against Rajinikanth. We are good friends. But, I strongly oppose his decision to visit Sri Lanka and participate in an event organized by Lyca, which has business ties with the Sri Lankan government. Lyca Group Chairman and Founder Subaskaran Allirajah may be a Sri Lankan Tamil, but he is associated closely with many ruling party members and former President Mahinda Rajapakse’s family. There are two motives behind this. One is the commercial reason; to gain visibility for Lyca’s mega-budget project ‘2.0’ which has Rajinikanth in the lead role. The other is the political purpose,” Thirumavalavan told reporters yesterday.
Thirumavalavan said Lyca Group is using Rajinikanth to boast that it’s working towards the welfare of victimized Tamils.
“I have sought an appointment to meet Rajinikanth in person. The entire Tamil diaspora living in Sri Lanka are totally against Lyca Group because of their proximity to the Sinhalese government. I’m representing the sentiments of Tamils living across the world. I will hand over a memorandum and request him to drop his visit.”
