Thimuru Pudichavan marks Vijay Antony’s first cop film and it turns out to be an action drama with a simple plot and an extended narration. Director Ganesha, a former associate of SS rajamouli has interesting ideas in the narration but not all of them go well into the film.
Vijay Antony plays a straight and honest cop who wants to correct the society for a better living. To start this off, he himself gets into all kinds of work, earning a good name in the police department and changing the people around him as well. The town is corrupt by Meesa Padma (Dheena), a local thug who has spoilt the life of many including Vijay Antony’s own brother. The rest of the film is about how the cop puts things back into it’s own place and gets it right.
The first half has some interesting portions but the second half is cluttered with no actual clarity in the narration. Vijay Antony with a good performance tries to fit himself into the mass image, but it only works in parts due to the predictable structure.
Overall, Thimiru Pudichavan is a template commercial masala film that has a chance to work with the masses. The over-the-top second half could have been worked on a bit more, in order to achieve a better product.
Verdict: A basic commercial entertainer
