The theatrical rights for Vijay’s Theri, including the print and publicity cost, have been acquired jointly by Carnival Cinema and Friday Film House for a record sum of INR 5.6 crores through ‘Minimum Guarantee’ method. It is the highest price ever in Kerala for a non-Malayalam film, surpassing the previous record set by Vikram-Shankar’s I.
Theri will have to outperform Thupakki’s box-office figures comfortably at the Kerala box-office to break even and start earning profits for all the stakeholders involved. The film is gearing up for release on April 14th for the Tamil New Year weekend.
