Theri Movie Preview
The unprecedented fan frenzy to book tickets for Theri has already stormed social media platforms with memes and trends. With the stalemate on Chengalpet territory still active, the hotspots, including the Vettri theater at Chrompet, haven’t opened bookings yet, much to the exasperation of fans. Meanwhile, the makers and trade are still awaiting the outcome of state government-appointed tax committee to apprise them about the entertainment tax exemption, which is crucial for a big star film.
Following the box office debacle of lackluster Puli, Vijay has a huge task of proving his mettle at the box-office and get back to winning ways once again. Kalaipuli S Thanu is believed to have convinced distributors of the merits of the film and charged exorbitant rates at several territories. The industry is eagerly looking to the film’s fate since a failure is bound to have harsh ramifications in the business side. Remember Lingaa. Meanwhile, a success would lead to healthy transactions at the ticket window, steering the producer’s Kabali to a record pre-release business.
Both the teaser and trailer of Theri piqued the curiosity of moviegoers and were on par with the expectations of fans. With the inevitable Chatriyan comparisons still on, one can trust Atlee to adapt smartly and deliver it with great panache like he how he presented Raja Rani, whose core plot has been explored in multifarious attempts in Tamil cinema.
Vijay and Samantha are reuniting after the blockbuster success of Kaththi, which floored audiences with its conscientious message aided by a generous dose of thought-provoking dialogues penned by AR Murugadoss. Although promos don’t showcase much of the onscreen romance between Samantha and Vijay, we might just look forward to get surprised in the film considering Atlee’s proven handling of romance tracks between the leads in Raja Rani.
Amy Jackson has a record for striking great chemistry with her protagonists and with the exception of her genuinely bothersome wig, whether she makes a fine pairing with Ilayathapathy or not is eagerly anticipated by fans. GV Prakash delivered a feastly 50th album for fans and his background score will be another look-forward-to factor in the film.
The film is releasing in more than 30 countries worldwide and with the four day festival weekend in Tamil Nadu, the numbers are expected to be huge. If the film manages to garner positive word of mouth from both critics and the general public, the box-office success will set new benchmarks in Tamil cinema across territories.
Theri is all set for release on April 14th worldwide with special premiers in overseas centres on April 13th.
