When it comes to commercial entertainers in Kollywood, Venkat Prabhu has always been a director who has been brave enough to try out new avenues, and experiment within the space. In his biggest breakthrough since Mankatha in 2011, VP gets to do a film with an A-lister in Thalapathy Vijay, and the result is a very satisfying roller-coaster ride that does not give us too many breaks in between.

The Greatest of All Time starts off as a story introducing us to the character of Gandhi, a man who is known as the ‘GOAT of SATS’, a special task force who turn up to solve tough missions round the globe. The film travels on a fun, fast and furious note in the first half, with a lot of entertaining stretches and huge action sequences that keep up the tempo in style. In the second half, the film dips a bit but is saved by the superb climax episode that has a lot of fun to go along with it.

As expected, Thalapathy Vijay delivers an utterly memorable performance in The GOAT, which pretty much proves the title to his name and gives the fans more than what they wanted. While he is calm, composed and smashing when required as Gandhi, the younger Vijay Jeevan is a surprise and is unlike anything else that the actor has done recently.

Fans are sure to enjoy the endless number of moments that Vijay has for himself in the film, and the references of other films, CSK and all that which come along with it. The film also has a very good support act from Prashanth, Sneha and the rest of the cast. While Mohan’s role was the one which was doubted big time, he has turned out to be a character who could have done better.

GOAT surely needed better music and cinematography as the film does not score well in those parts. Especially, Yuvan’s music turns out to be a downer for the film.

The GOAT is not a perfect film but VP has ensured that he has packaged enough and more in it to keep us engaged and thrilled throughout the runtime. The film has its flaws thanks to a few dull moments in the second half, but apart from that, it is a free flowing entertainer and that is a great result for the fans, just what the doctor ordered!

The Greatest of All Time Rating: 3.75/5
