Surya showers praise on Madras team

The audio launch of Madras happened yesterday in Taj Coromandel, Chennai with much fanfare. The chief guest for the function was Surya and Sivakumar. Speaking at the event, Surya said, “I returned back to Chennai only last night. But, after watching the trailer of Madras, I definitely wanted to be part of the event.”

It’s more like a college cultural meet than a formal audio launch, Karthi rightly said. The event was loaded with a spate of newcomers and trained young artists who all hold an admirable stint in theater fests. Looks like director Pa. Ranjith has an eye for talent, after all. His choices look promising right from an experienced poster designer Nandha Kumar (he also plays a crucial role in the film) to debutant cinematographer Murali, an FTII graduate. Karthi lavished praise on Murali’s excellent work. He said, “The subtle colors which Murali used to convey emotions reminded me of Spanish and Cuban films. His frames will definitely be discussed in future.” Karthi also shared on how young artists in the team blatantly outperformed him on sets. But he did manage to survive the embarrassment later on, by becoming friends with them.

“The backdrop, after watching the trailer, took me back to Paruthiveeran and Subramaniyapuram kind of films. I’m sure Madras will be one of the important films in Karthi’s career,” said Surya.  The Anjaan actor also showered praise on the entire team and fondly said, “Looks like you all have lived like a family in North Madras in the name of shooting. Director Ranjith’s captainship is admirable.”

One of the supporting actors hinted something interesting on the story that we caught attentively, “We have discussed ‘sivappu arasiyal‘ in the film in a delicate manner.”

Is communist politics the crux of Madras story? The red-colored font and the star in the title quite resemble that, we say.
