“Superman, Batman can fly. Why not our Rajinikanth?”, asks KS Ravikumar
After critics trashed the unintentionally hilarious climax sequence of Lingaa, KS Ravikumar speaks out, hits back at critics and defends his choice. “Spiderman is flying like that too. Why don’t you criticise? Why do you lament if we do it? Spiderman makers have a lavish budget and their market is more than 1500 crore whereas our market is confined only to 100 crores. Tamil cinema has a limited market across the globe. We wanted to do something different for the climax fight sequence. One of my assistant directors suggested the balloon fight and we went with his clue,” explains KS Ravikumar.
“For me Rajinikanth is a superman. He’s not just a superstar. For his audience, he is a superman. X-men, Batman ivangallam enna dheiva piraviya? Avanga mattum paranthu paranthu enna vena panalam enga Rajinikanth panna koodatha?. If you don’t like the climax, walk out from theaters before it starts. The film ends right before the fight scene kicks off. It’s staged only for superstar fans,” says KS Ravikumar.
This cringe-worthy speech received widespread criticism from film buffs on social media platforms. Coming from an established director like KS Ravikumar, these kind of jejune responses are indeed quite shocking.
