Stunt Silva’s brother-in-law shot dead by police in Sterlite protests
Popular stunt director Silva took to his social media page and let everyone know that his brother-in-law has succumbed to the police gunfire in anti-Sterlite protests in Tuticorin. “J. Selvaraj, my beloved sister’s husband, has been shot dead by the police in Tuticorin. Sharing the news with grave pain,” a translation of his tweet read.
Actor Suriya said the sporadic protests of Tamil Nadu people in various places to protect the environment and the loss of valuable lives have made him feel guilty. “I always believe that there should be no violence in any protest. At the same time, a mere protest is not violence. A demonstration is the only solution for people to fight for their rights. The administrators should pay heed to the problems faced by the people at the beginning stage itself and respect their sentiments. The ongoing agitation in Tuticorin is not because of religious or caste tension. People are fighting for their livelihood. They have not taken to the streets overnight calling for the governmental action. They have been fighting for their rights for the past 25 years.”
