Producer Gnanavelraja, who bankrolls films under production house Studio Greeen, has once again struck gold at the box-office with a Karthi film. Out of ten films produced by Studio Green so far, they have produced seven films of Karthi – his debut Paruthiveeran, Naan Mahaan Alla, Siruthai, Alex Pandian, All in All Azhagu Raja, Biriyani, Madras. While Alex Pandian and All in All Azhagu Raja received tepid response at the box-office, Biriyani and Siruthai managed a good stint at the ticket-window. Now, Madras is waiting to join the list of blockbusters Paruthiveeran and Naan Mahaan Alla, which were a huge commercial as well as critical success.
However, Gnanavelraja was highly celebrated when he took the plunge to distribute Nalan Kumarasamy’s Soodhu Kavvum. Their banner also distributed Kumki, which provided a launchpad for Vikram Prabhu. Studio Green’s penchant for providing opportunities to new filmmakers was evident from the beginning. In fact, their first production venture Suriya’s Sillunu Oru Kadhal marked the directorial debut of Krishna. Likewise, Attakathi marked the debut of director Ranjith and actor Dinesh as a lead, who is now rising as a promising actor in Tamil cinema. They also distributed Pizza 2: The Villa directed by Deepan Chakravarthy, a short filmmaker.
Studio Green is currently producing Suriya’s Masss. It is their third production with Suriya after superhit films Sillunu Oru Kadhal and Singam. Featuring Nayanthara and Amy Jackson as female leads, Masss is a horror-comedy directed by Venkat Prabhu. Studio Green is also co-producing Vishnu Vishal’s next film titled Indru Netru Naalai with CV Kumar’s Thirukumaran Entertainment. It will be directed by Ravi and marks Hiphop Tamizha Aadhi’s debut as a music composer.
