Soppana Sundari Movie Review
Aishwarya Rajesh and Lakshmipriyaa are impressive in this colorful comedy! Down goes our Soppana Sundari Movie Review.
Comedies on chaotic situations have come across quite a few times in Tamil cinema’s recent past, and we have one more joining the bandwagon now with Aishwarya Rajesh’s Soppana Sundari, directed by SG Charles.
The film is completely centered around a car which lands into the hands of the trio – Aishwarya Rajesh who plays Agalya, her sister Thaen and their mother. When Agalya realizes that it is a gift from a recent raffle ticket which was given to her by her brother (Karunakaran), the tug of war for the car begins between the sisters and their brother. Slowly, it escalates into more realizations which bring out funny situations. Director SG Charles sets the tone of the film right with a funny and energetic first half that hardly has dull moments in it, and flows rapidly with good loads of comics. However, the second half takes a damp turn with the entry of a cop character, and this writing choice from Charles could have been turned into something better for sure. The second half of Soppana Sundari does not deliver as much as the first half does, but few laughs here and there along with the short runtime don’t make it much of a bother.
Aishwarya Rajesh has picked a script that suits her image once again, and it does come out in her favour. Though the end of the film has some moral policing going on, the rest is in the right slot. Soppana Sundari also benefits from the presence of Deepa and Lakshmipriyaa Chandramouli who are very good fits to the story. The latter particularly, is impressive playing a tough character.
The film could have made better use of the supporting characters such as Karunakaran, Mime Gopi and more but resolves to use Sunil in a role that we have seen many times in Tamil cinema.
It is Ajmal Tahseen’s trippy score that keeps the ball rolling at many places, and adds to the eccentricity of the film. The camerawork by Balamuragan and Vignesh Rajagopalan is neat and so is the editing too.
Overall, Soppana Sundari is a freewheeling entertainer that delivers some good laughs. A time pass outing in theatres!
Verdict: A jolly, time-pass dramedy that offers some good laughs!
