With the tickling wisecracks of Yogi Babu and the presence of veterans Kovai Sarala and Mansoor Ali Khan, Sema comes off as a nice popcorn entertainer that sets the mood right for the summer. GV Prakash turns towards the rural side and does a good part in taking the story along.

Director Valliganthan had picked his script out of an assistant director’s life, filling it with comic elements all around, some romance and emotions as well. The film stays alive thanks to the ladies in it – Sujatha, heroine Arthana and Kovai Sarala keep up the ante right from the start. The combination of GV Prakash and Yogi Babu too, works to an extent, arising the laughs. The first half is formulaic with some scenes being repetitive, but the second pays off with the chaos comedy route ending nicely.

Technically, there’s not much juice in the film, with the cinematography opting for lots of close-ups. GV Prakash however, does a good job with the songs. In particular, Uruttu Kannala is a jolly theatre song which will gather a loud response.

Sema is a light-hearted time-pass fare that has a chance at the box office this summer. Watch it if you’d like two hours of entertainment without investing much of your mind.
