Saithan, as the promos promised, has an intriguing plot that’s gripping enough to keep the audience on their toes throughout. Vijay Antony seems to grow at a wise speed and he makes sure that audiences feel comfortable with his choice of scripts. As derived from the novel “Aaah” by late writer Sujatha and adapting it on screen is a good effort by debutant director Pradeep Krishnamoorthy, who has been complemented well by a well-assembled crew. With its minimal casting, intact script and narration, Saithan manages to keep the audience hooked to their screens in its smartly packaged unfolding of mystery and crime.
Dinesh(Vijay Antony), a software techie in a leading concern in Chennai, is a workaholic and finds a girl who’s interested in him through a matrimonial site and eventually ties the knot with her. Arundathi Nair as Aishwarya walks into his life and as an orphan, there is no trace of her past relatives or friends. As the couple start their married life, trouble begins for Dinesh as he seems to hear a mysterious voice, which leaves him in a lot of unexpected issues and also making him mentally sick. The discovery of the enigma behind Dinesh’s peculiar personality forms the plot.
From a thriller, the movie gradually travels to the past with a flashback portion and concludes at a revenge in the present which forms the third-act. The first half of the movie completely delivers the thrills, and the second half showcases Vijay Antony’s mass avatar in pre-climax portions. Vijay Antony, certainly, has given life to his character with ease. Arundathi nair has done the same and as the entire film revolves around her, she happens to exhibit her expressions in right proportions. The pre- climax portions seem to lose grip for a fitting end and it appears a minus point for the film.
Muruadoss as Vijay Antony’s friend puts a small show with his wits and Kitty. Charu Hassan, Kitty and Y Gee Mahendra have done justice to their roles with ease. The technical part of the film is sound, cinematography has two shades and both looked apt, music and BGM by Vijay Antony perfectly suits the script. Overall, Saithan justifies the past, holds the present with a neat narration and gripping performance.
