Superstar Rajinikanth has returned to Chennai after completing his medical check-up in the United States of America. The actor is expected to join the next leg of Kaala shooting in Chennai, which kick-starts tomorrow in a sprawling set constructed to resemble the slums of Dharavi.
Directed by Pa. Ranjith and produced by Dhanush’s Wunderbar Films, Kaala marks the debut of Bollywood actress Huma Qureshi, best known for her role in Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs of Wasseypur, in Tamil cinema. Renowned Hindi actor Nana Patekar plays the role of a politician in the movie and will be seen locking horns with Rajinikanth.
National award-winning actor Samuthirakani shares the screen space with Rajinikanth for the first time in the film. At the recent press meet of Velai Illa Pattathaari 2, Samuthirakani said his first shot with Rajinikanth on the sets of Kaala felt like a life-time achievement. Also starring Anjali Patil, Pankaj Tripathi, Eswari Rao, Sampath, Sukanya, Shayaji Shinde, Ravi Kale, Sakshi Aggarwal, Dhileepan, Yatin Karyekar in significant roles, Kaala has music composed by Santhosh Narayanan.
The makers have already shot the major portions in Mumbai in a month-long schedule, which grabbed the headlines with leaks of various shooting spot pictures of Rajinikanth by the Mumbai media.
Veteran editor Sreekar Prasad handles the editing work and G Murali, who cranked the camera for Kabali, is taking care of the film’s cinematography. Kaala marks director Pa. Ranjith’s second consecutive collaboration with Superstar Rajinikanth and the trade is quite excited about the project, which is progressing at breakneck speed.
Now, the million dollar question seems to be whether Dhanush, son-in-law of Rajinikanth, is acting in the film or not. Dhanush has repeatedly expressed his desire to share screen space with Rajinikanth in his interviews and it has to be seen whether Pa. Ranjith has a plan to make him appear in a brief cameo or not in the film.
