Rajini Murugan Movie Preview

Although Sivakarthikeyan’s halfhearted Kakki Sattai was panned by critics, it went on to become one of the crowd-pleasers at the box office last year, furthering Siva’s gradually-emerging fanbase, which includes kids and family audiences. In fact, trade pundits attribute Siva’s surprising surge at the ticket window to family audiences, who expect spotless entertainers from the young telly host-turned-actor. Now, Rajini Murugan, which was mired in financial trouble and has been pending since a long time, is all set to hit the screens finally on January 14th for the four-day Pongal weekend, along with a slew of other films including Bala’s Thaarai Thappattai, Vishal’s Kathakali and Udhayanidhi’s Gethu.

Rajini Murugan marks the coming together of director Ponram and Sivakarthikeyan after their successful first outing Varuthapadatha Vaalibar Sangam which propelled Siva into the big league and set in motion a series of hero-centric potboilers such as Maan Karate and Kaaki Sattai.

Produced by Lingusamy, Rajini Murugan is released with the association of Pen Entertainment. Set in the backdrop of Madurai, it features Idhu Enna Maayam fame Keerthy Suresh as the lead heroine. While Soori provides comic relief, Raj Kiran and Samuthirakani will be seen playing pivotal roles. The music composed by D Imman has been received well by fans, especially the pop culture-fuelled Ennama Ipdi Panreengalema song.

Sivakarthikeyan

In Rajini Murugan, we talk about a joint family in Madurai. There’s a lovely track about my friendship with my grandfather (Rajkiran).

I play a character who is determined to achieve big in life no matter what happens. The familial relationships are portrayed beautifully with a good dose of humour.

There won’t be any smoking scene in this film. Director Ponram and I were pretty sure that Rajini Murugan should also be enjoyed by family audiences. We wanted kids to come to theatres

Keerthy Suresh

I play a bubbly, loud-mouthed character in Rajini Murugan. A proper mid-town girl. It’s totally different from Maya in Idhu Enna Maayam

Director Ponram

Every family has problems. It may be big or small. The problems faced by Sivakarthikeyan’s family in the film are told realistically with good fun

Among the four Pongal films, Rajini Murugan is believed to have received the lion’s share of screens. The entire industry is pinning high hopes on the film’s commercial success, since it could alleviate the financial shortcomings of Lingusamy and put him back on track as a successful producer.
