Pongal week (7 days): Varisu and Thunivu mint a total of 170 crores in TN Box Office alone
The Pongal week is over and it has turned out to be a dream week for Tamil cinema as the combo of Varisu and Thunivu together have grossed more than 180 crores in Tamil Nadu. This is indeed a massive feat that both films have been able to do well on an almost equal range in TN, and have pushed the bar ahead as a superb start to the year.
Varisu has grossed close to 87 crores in Tamil Nadu until now, while Thunivu is slightly behind with 82 crores. Both the films have earned the major chunk of their lifetime revenue and are now set to grab the rest hereon.
Varisu has preformed well in all the neighbouring states such as Karnataka, Kerala and the Telugu states as well. While its performance is happy in Karnataka, Kerala has been a bit underwhelming due to the family entertainer genre. On the other hand, Varisu has fared pretty well in the Telugu states with 20 crores gross while the Hindi version is accounting to 10 crores.
Thunivu has done very well in Karnataka while the other territories did not take off as much as expected.
In the overseas territories, Thunivu has already broken even in many zones like the USA while Varisu is still yet to cross the barrier in many due to the high prices.
Trade pundits do indicate that Varisu is set to have a bigger run in the long run, and the same will be proven by the end of this weekend. More updates on the box office will be coming by here.
