Right from the interesting title, director Sasi scores with Pichaikkaran, a standout decision. With his script and execution, he makes a deep impact, thoroughly aided by Vijay’s soaring performance.
In a plot laded with a heavy dose of emotions, Vijay Antony walks the talk as Arul, a rich businessman who sheds his pleasures and lives a life empty handed, sacrificing all his wealth, image and pride, all for an emotional reason. What makes Pichaikkaran stronger is the presence of a convincing plot, neatly justified with connect and crisp dialogues. There are few moments which will wake up our thoughts about the people we see on the road and the situations that would have brought them down to this level. Muthuraman as Vijay Antony’s uncle comes out with a worthy characterisation, standing out with his cunningness while providing some comic gags as well.
Wanting his mom to relieve herself from coma, Vijay Antony goes on a life that could be the toughest for a man of his stature, a beggar. Kudus to director Sasi as with his screenplay and narration, he provides enough logical support, resulting in entertainment. With some hard hitting truths of a beggar at the forefront, this film offers something for everybody. Like every film from Sasi earlier, the heroine Satna Titus comes off without being a song property, travelling through the film.
The story why and how Vijay Antony turns into a beggar is narrated interestingly over the runtime, along with the superb support of the composer in him as well. The songs are mostly montages, while the BGM, especially the theme, is riveting. Cinematography by Prasanna Kumar is neat, with Veera Senthil’s editing justifying the director’s vision.
