Pichaikkaran is a film that needs no introduction. The sheer emotional value of the film which the film had along with the mass value that it added for Vijay Antony is celebrated story in Kollywood. And when Vijay Antony decided to convert this into a franchise by turning a director himself, he also decides to follow the core of the original.
If Pichaikkaran 1 was about the mother and son angle, the second part of the film is about a brother-sister sentiment. The relationship between two siblings and their journey is set in motion very early on in the film, and it sets the tone for the film beautifully. The film does have a very good plot about brain transplantation and putting it along with the emotional angle does lead to some very good scenes. However, what is off putting is the overuse of VFX which is an eyesore in the film, hampering the flow. It is not easy to relate with the film where everything has been shot using a green screen, and that takes out the depth from both the visuals and the storyline. However, Pichaikkaran 2 does make use of a good ‘Anti Bikili’ element which is a good segment in the second half and works out well on the whole.
Vijay Antony delivers a neat performance and his body language and emotional reactions have worked out better in the film.
The two kids who take up a majority of the screen time in the first half have done very well and are extraordinary additions to the film. However, the rest of the cast are just average and there is nothing much to write about them.
Technically, Vijay Antony takes on almost all the departments and it is a neat contribution from him for sure. The songs however, could have been better.
On the whole, Pichaikkaran 2 is a good commercial entertainer that will satisfy the target audiences. Pichaikkaran 2 Movie Review by Siddarth Srinivas
