Vikram Prabhu’s early thrillers such as Arima Nambi, Sigaram Thodu and the likes did meet the requirements of neat thrillers that kept the audiences engaged. After quite a long gap, the actor has managed to find another such film and that is Paayum Oli Nee Yenakku.
The film is based on the character of Vikram Prabhu, who plays a man with low light blindness (he cannot see clearly during the night as his vision is mostly blacked out). The interesting concept is bound with familial elements and an action packed setting where the lead character comes face to face with gangsters. Paayum Oli Nee Yenakku follows a templatized narrative pattern and is similar to films such as Naan Mahaan Alla, Mr Chandramouli and Varathan, but the film’s narrative is done in an interesting and engaging manner that will interest fans of the genre. Despite taking the usual revenge thriller path, it is able to hold the audience for most parts and ends up being a watchable thriller.
Following Taanakkaran and his impressive performance in Ponniyin Selvan 2, Vikram Prabhu hands out another good performance in the film. The actor does his best to hold the character of a man with a vision impairment, and the sequences which use this concept are good to see.
The climax which is carried out in a clever way along with the crisp runtime that does not allow too many melodramatic sequences is a plus. Vani Bhojan has a nice presence too, while Kannada actor Dhananjayaka is a good fit.
The music by Sagar largely uses orchestral themes to amp up the excitement, while the cinematography is good as well. The stunt choreography by Dinesh Kasi is impressive and one of the strengths of the film.
On the whole, Paayum Oli Nee Yenakku is a fine thriller that packs in some good sequences and keeps the ball rolling until the end. Paayum Oli Nee Yenakku Movie Review by Siddarth Srinivas
