Review Overview
Thandalkaaran
Thimiranum Da
Anbe Peranbe
Pothachaalum
An energetic, crowd-friendly soundtrack!
In NGK, Yuvan gives utmost importance to the hooks of the songs, and that's a safe bet as it helps in making the music easy to remember. Though the 'something missing' feeling does linger at the end, the film's power and theme is conveyed well.
Cast: Suriya, Sai Pallavi, Rakul Preet
Music: Yuvan Shankar Raja
Lyrics: Kabilan, Vignesh ShivN, Uma Devi, Selvaraghavan
Direction: Selvaraghavan
Label: Sony Music
Thandalkaaran: Singer – KG Ranjith
Yuvan pins in an incredibly catchy hook that makes the song worth revisiting again and again. This would have definitely worked even better with some more quality in the lyrics, but the tune is something that can’t be written off easily.
Thimiranum Da: Singer – Jithin Raj
A powerful track which talks about the system, uniting the youth and all that. Starts off with an intriguing prelude and then moves on to Vignesh Shivn’s lyrics which carry a lot of anger in them; Yuvan once again organizes a beat and hook that stays in your head. Jithin Raj’s rendition becomes all the more interesting with the vocal alteration structure having a little bit of Poi Kaal Kudhirai (Samar) in it.
Anbe Peranbe: Singers – Sid Sriram, Shreya Ghoshal
A barely decent love melody that has very little going for it. Except for Sid Sriram’s vocals, the song has a lot of shades from Yuvan’s previous love duets.
Pothachaalum: Singer – Sivam
Yuvan in total control here and these kinds of songs are what makes his music so special. It’s also an excellent idea to bring in Sivam to croon the song, as his unique voice stresses at the right places, and makes the track worth a listen despite having only few lines. The raise, wow!
