Films on friendships in Tamil cinema are few and far in between, as the frequency on them coming out has reduced even further after the action fever has caught on recently. However, debutant actor-director Ananth comes forward with a likeable and relatable tale in Nanban Oruvan Vantha Piragu, a simple yet sweet film that takes us through the story of a boy growing into a man.
Nanban Oruvan Vantha Piragu is the story of Anand, a boy who moves into Anandam Colony during his early days, and how he forms a long list of friendships who help him all along on the way on the path of self realization and following his dreams. The film takes us through the life of the protagonist through his school life, college next and finally work life where he works hard to make his dream come true. The film feels breezy and light-hearted, with the emotional beats coming in at the right moments and hitting us through sharp dialogues which stay on our minds.
Ananth has got it right with his relatable writing which comes through with situations that we would have surely come across in our daily life, and he gets the fact across with the use of beautiful songs (AH Kaashif scores) and good on-screen moments like the single shot interval sequence and the Singapore scenarios.
The film has a very good support cast in the form of the terrific RJ Vijay and proficient Dev, who are good pillars. Though the rest aren’t great, they come together well as an ensemble. Ananth makes us of his supporting cast to get across his points in the film, and there is enough room for at least 20 characters to find themselves some good space here.
The music by AH Kaashif is a big plus as almost all the songs are enjoyable on a playlist and also fare well in the film. The cinematography and other elements in the technical department are good.
On the whole, NOVP is a relatable feel good film on the journey of life. Though it is a bit inconsistent in delivering its moments, it has a chance to work with the youth who would find many scenes strung to their daily life.
