The Sangamithra is currently interacting with international market leaders at the 70th Cannes Film Festival to showcase their historical epic, which will go on floors soon.
In an official statement, they have released the film’s plot. “Sangamithra is a tale which goes back to 8th century AD, telling the trials and tribulations of the protagonist Sangamithra, whose beauty is unparalleled, and her journey to save her kingdom. It is a story of many kingdoms, many equations, many relationships, told in an ambitious, larger than life, visually extravagant manner,” the statement says.
“Sangamithra is aimed at being the crown jewel of Tamil films, an ode to the oldest language in the world. While this is a piece of fiction, there are unexplored chapters in India’s ancient history which will be opened through Sangamithra in the most visually beautiful manner. Sangamithra is a film which will be told in two parts,” it adds.
Directed by Sundar C, Sangamithra marks the 100th production of Sri Thenandal Films. Shruti Haasan plays the titular role. Arya and Jayam Ravi have been roped in to play important roles. AR Rahman composes music.
