An entertaining romance drama!
The tongue-in-cheek humour, genuinely relatable characters, and the unconventional treatment of romance within the confines of a mainstream film make Meyaadha Maan an entertaining drama. Debutant filmmaker Rathina Kumar, who has stretched his short film Karthik Subbaraj's Aviyal into a feature movie, has quietly succeeded in his gutsy attempt. It, undoubtedly, has paid off.

The tongue-in-cheek humour, genuinely relatable characters, and the unconventional treatment of romance within the confines of a mainstream film make Meyaadha Maan an entertaining drama. Debutant filmmaker Rathina Kumar, who has stretched his short film from Karthik Subbaraj’s Aviyal into a feature movie, has quietly succeeded in his gutsy attempt. It, undoubtedly, has paid off.
The first half of the film is filled with entertaining wisecracks that flow organically with the screenplay instead of any force-fitted comedy sequences. The trials and tribulations of a one-sided love story are portrayed beautifully in the film by Rathina Kumar, who has penned realistic lines and situations that we come across in day-to-day life. The second half gradually treads the coming-of-age path with ease, and except for a mildly meandering portion towards the fag end of the film, everything works really well.
The star composer-duo Santhosh Narayanan and Pradeep Kumar is another backbone of the film. Their foot-tapping gaanas, mellifluous romance numbers and the funky background score have elevated the movie to a different level. Vidhu Ayanna’s cinematography has captured the rustic nook and corners of Royapuram with great richness.
Vaibhav Reddy as a lovelorn, devil-may-care troupe singer has shouldered the movie with his lovely performance and enjoyable antics. Television sensation Priya Bhavani has delivered what’s required for the role adequately, without going over-the-top. However, it is Vivek Prasanna and Induja, who play Vaibhav’s friend and sister respectively, who steal the show with their incredible performances. While Vivek proves his mettle as a reliable supporting actor, Induja is entirely a revelation. As the loud, caring and bold Sudarvizhi, she’s impressive and is surely an actor to watch out for soon.
Overall, Meyaadha Maan is a lovely debut by Rathina Kumar. The film is an entertaining romance-drama, which also attempts to break the shackles of run-of-the-mill romance sagas in Kollywood with its pragmatic story-telling.
