Mani Ratnam’s e-mail to Maddy after Alaipayuthey success

Alaipayuthey provided the much needed break for Madhavan during the early stage of his career. Maddy went on to work with Mani Ratnam in Aayutha Ezhuthu, Kannathil Muthamittal and Guru after the film’s success. He is one of the very few actors who Mani has repeatedly cast in his films.

“I remember after him giving me my first break, I sent him an email thanking him. And he wrote back these four lines: `I didn’t do it for you. I did it as I thought you were good for the film. Don’t misplace your gratitude. You should also be like this.’ That’s Mani Ratnam for you,” recalls Maddy in an interview.
