Mani Ratnam talks about Ok Kanmani

Mani Ratnam has talked in detail about his upcoming film Ok Kanmani in a recent interview to a radio channel. The film, starring Dulquer Salmaan and Nithya Menen as leads, will hit screens on April 17th. “It’s a film about contemporary relationships. If you say it is similar to Alaipayuthey, of course it is. It may be Alaipayuthey 2. But, Ok Kanmani will be totally different in terms of attitude, characters and set up. The mindset and social background keep changing every five years. There’s a lot to explore in relationships,” said Mani Ratnam.

“Dulquer is very real and the big bonus is that he is a fantastic actor. He is a Madras paiyyan. We have shot the film with sync sound. Prakash Raj, Leela Samson have spoken Tamil on the spot. Nithya Menen has a strong character. Her Tamil is clean. She grasps things quickly. Only on few occasions you realize that the character you have written on paper and the one you witness on screen are similar. I have experienced it twice or thrice. It happened with Shalini in Alaipayuthey. Shalini in real life is more or less the same as her character in the film. Likewise, Nithya Menen in Ok Kanmani. She made things alive,” added Mani Ratnam.
