Madurai HC dismisses Lingaa plagiarism petition
Madurai High Court has dismissed the petition filed by Ravi Rathinam who alleged that Lingaa has been stolen from a script he penned for his film Mullaivanam 999. This comes as a huge relief for the team with only few days to go for the film’s grand release. KS Ravikumar had earlier said, “Though the story of Lingaa is penned by Ponkumaran, the film’s screenplay is written by me and I have added more original elements to the script” and Rajinikanth in his counter-affidavit said, “It’s a blatant lie that I share distribution rights for the film. The name, fame and repute enjoyed by me worldwide have been tarnished as if the film Lingaa is a product of a copy-cat. I have been roped into unnecessary controversy. I hereby reserve my right to proceed against the petitioner for damages.”
Meanwhile, the Kerala distribution rights of the film are yet to be sold since the distributors demand payments for Kochadaiiyaan‘s dismal performance in the state. An amicable solution is expected soon to settle the issues. Other areas are gearing up for the Rajinikanth mania which will kickstart once the advance bookings open this weekend.
