Maari Movie Preview
After Pudhupettai, a ground-breaking film in both Dhanush’s and Selvaraghavan’s career, Dhanush plays the full-fledged role of a don again in Maari, which is all set for release this Friday. From the initial promos of the film, Dhanush looks energetic with so much charisma. The confident panache of a local don is visible in the trailer. After 3, Mariyaan and Naiyyanda failed to work at the box office consecutively, Dhanush bounced back with a blockbuster in his 25th film Velai Illa Patthathari which was celebrated by audiences. He followed it up with the cerebral Anegan which also fared superbly at the ticket window.
Balaji Mohan, who has made back-to-back offbeat films in Kadhalil Sodhapuvathu Eppadi and Vaayai Moodi Pesavum, is taking on the mantle of a mainstream film-maker this time. To put it in local terms, he is going ‘Thara Local’ with Dhanush. In fact, Maari is a script Balaji penned keeping Dhanush in mind.
“My first two films belong to the space I created for myself after I started watching lot of international cinema and developed that taste. The sensibility on which Maari has been made has always been there inside me. I’d say Maari is close to my real self because I grew up watching such films. I never felt like traversing into an unknown territory with Maari. I felt quite at home working on it,” said Balaji Mohan in an interview.
Dhanush has paired with Kajal Aggarwal in the film. The duo was supposed to work together long back in Vetrimaaran’s Polladhavan but it didn’t materialize since the latter had already committed to some other film.
The music of Maari, composed by Anirudh, has been making waves ever since the album released. The mushrooming of various fan-made trailers for other heroes and sports icons such as Rajinikanth, Vijay, Ajith, Dhoni, Ronaldo have increased the expectations of movie-goers in the online space.
Will Balaji Mohan prove his versatility with his first full-on commercial venture? Will Dhanush score a hat-trick at the box office?
Let’s keep our fingers crossed till Friday.
