Legendary Carnatic Musician Balamuralikrishna Passes Away

Legendary Carnatic Musician Balamuralikrishna passed away at the age of 86 at his residence in Chennai yesterday due to old-age related ailments. He was one of the very few musicians in South India to have been honored with all three Padma awards – Padma Vibushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri.

He was also awarded France government’s ‘Chevalier’ of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Order of Arts and Letters).Balamuralikrishna was well-known for his dexterity in playing various instruments like veena, violin, mridangam and kanjiraveena, violin, mridangam and kanjira.
