Oscar beckons AR Rahman once again. Yes, Rahman’s score for Rajinikanth’s Kochadaiiyaan has been selected in the long-list of 114 original scores for the Oscar 2014 race. The final nominations list for the 87th Academy Awards will be announced on January 15, 2015. The highly anticipated Oscars Awards ceremony is scheduled on February 22, 2015. Interestingly, Rahman’s scores for Hollywood films Million Dollar Arm and The Hundred-Foot Journey are also in contention for nominations.
Also, four songs composed by AR Rahman are in the long-list of 79 Original Songs. They include ‘Afreen’ from The Hundred-Foot Journey and, ‘Million Dollar Dream’, ‘Spreading The Word/Makhna’, ‘We Could Be Kings’ from Million Dollar Arm.
“A Reminder List of works submitted in the Original Score category will be made available with a nominations ballot to all members of the Music Branch, who shall vote in the order of their preference for not more than five achievements. The five achievements receiving the highest number of votes will become the nominations for final voting for the award,” says the Academy.
AR Rahman currently has two Oscars to his credit. He won the Best Original Score and Best Original Song awards for the year 2009 for ‘Slumdog Millionaire’. Will ARR make it to the nominations this time?
