Excellent, exciting blends. A commendable debut!
What Darbuka Siva brings to the table in Kidaari is stuff that is worth celebrating in the long run. The composer attempts an innovative folk-western blend, which works out well in his favour. Kidaari brings fresh seeds to the Tamil music scene, pushing away the overdose of electronically synthesized music which is found aplenty these days. It’s great to see a debutant delivering music at this level. Don’t miss it.
Cast: Sasikumar, Nikhila Vimal, Napoleon, Vela Ramamurthy
Music: Darbuka Siva
Lyrics: Ekadesi, Mohanrajan, Mahakavi Bharathiyar
Diirector: Prasath Murugesan
Label: Think Music
Vandiyile Nellu Varum: Singers – Anthony Daasan, Sanjana Divaker Kalmanje
No deep lyrics, no big changeovers. Just a simple base and enthusiastic vocals which superbly complement the music. Here’s Darbuka Siva making a grand entry with this instantly likable number. Watch out for a slowdown in the middle, making it better. Our PICK.
Vettaruva Veecharuva: Singers – D. Velmurugan
A slight dip from what Velmurugan is usually capable of. A passable track at best with a stringy background, no great shakes.
Thalakaalu Puriyalaye: Singers – Anitha K, Velmurugan
This is a stunning fusion of rural ethnic music and a new gen tune. Anitha K’s exciting vocals take over the first half of the song, while Velmurugan comes later to score even higher. Some credit to the lyrics as well, which manage to keep you hooked. Without doubt, our PICK.
Nenjukulla Ninnu Kittu: Singers – Sanjana Kalmanje
Sanjana returns to the mic for a melodious track, which sprays an aura of lilt after all the mischievousness so far. Siva keeps it simple on the instrumentations, with the ganjira topping the scene.
Pagaivanukku Arulvaai: Singer – Haricharan
What follows a slightly extended orchestrated setup is a beautiful rendition from Haricharan, who is at utmost comfort when it comes to songs of this sort. Somewhere in between, you can associate yourself to the feel of Ilaiyaraaja’s Thiruvaasagam, and that’s where it clicks big. Another PICK.
Kaathu Veesudhu Kaathu: Singers – Darbuka Siva, Gowtham Bharadwaj
We heard this as a simple synth in the third track, but the way Siva converts it into a heavy track and adds the ‘mass’ effect, is an effort worth lauding. Short, but hugely effective. Surely a PICK.
Velivarum Ulmugam: Instrumental
Siva exactly frames the scary and tense mood into this theme track, which will work wonders if used well in the film.
