A Watchable, Harmless Fantasy Rom-Com!
Kattappava Kanom is a fairly watchable fantasy rom-com, which easily works to a major extent of the film's crisp running time. After taking his own sweet time to establish the characters and set the conflict, debutant director Mani Seiyon firmly delivers side-splitting jokes on one hand and smutty double-entendres on the other.

Kattappava Kanom is a fairly watchable fantasy rom-com, which easily works to a major extent of the film’s crisp running time. After taking his own sweet time to establish the characters and set the conflict, debutant director Mani Seiyon firmly delivers side-splitting jokes on one hand and smutty double-entendres on the other.
The story revolves around the missing of Kattappa, a ‘lucky’ vaasthu fish, owned by Minjur Vanjaram (Mime Gopi). Vanjaram believes Kattappa is the main reason for all the fortunes amassed by him in a short period of time. When Kattappa lands in the residence of Pandian (Sibiraj) and Meenu (Aishwarya Rajesh), the duo never realizes its superstitious power. Meanwhile, Vanjaram is hellbent on finding his lucky mascot back.
Despite not broadly exploring the fantasy angle, Mani Seiyon has genuinely managed to bring the roof down on regular occasions, thanks to the host of comedians including Kaali Venkat, who is in fine form with his dialogue delivery and timing, and Yogi Babu, who appears for a brief time and succeeds in entertaining the audiences.
Mani Seiyon has a good knack for writing lewd puns and his enjoyable wordplays surely bring a smile on the face of viewers. But the screenplay lacks convincing twists and necessary excitement to hold audiences to their seats. Instead, Mani deploys hilarious situational comedies which leave audiences in splits, on major attempts.
Sibiraj has done a decent job and on the performance front, he shows a little maturity compared to his immediate previous outings. Aishwarya Rajesh, in a refreshing change, dons modern costumes and has performed the role of an urban girl adequately.
Overall, Kattappava Kanom is a harmless popcorn entertainer which is held by Mani Seiyon’s crude jokes mouthed in a nonchalant manner.
