We reported yesterday here that MM Media, who has acquired distribution rights for the film in the USA, has promised that Kaththi will be the biggest release for a Tamil film in the USA. Now, Ayngaran International has confirmed that the film will be released in over 70 screens in the UK, which means it’s also the biggest release there. It’s a new record for Tamil films in the UK. Earlier, Suriya’s Anjaan set the benchmark by releasing in 58 screens in the UK beating Rajinikanth’s Kochadaiiyaan, which was released in 48 screens.
Vijay’s films have always done phenomenal business in the UK and it’s been his forte. When Jilla (43 screens) released, it grossed over 1.5 crores in its first weekend and became the third all-time opening grosser for a Tamil film after Rajinikanth’s Endhiran and Sivaji.
