Kaththi creates box-office record on Day 1!

Vijay’s Kaththi is already setting benchmarks across the world with a bumper opening on day 1. The film, which got released in 100+ screens in the USA has registered collections on par with Rajinikanth’s Endhiran for premieres. The film collected 86 lakhs from the reported 76 screens and it’s the second best opening for a Tamil film after Endhiran. If Kaththi’s overall gross crosses $ 400K, then it will be Vijay’s career best and also the best ever figures for a non-Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan film. Vijay’s best figures in the USA for the overall came in Thuppakki with $364K. Right now, the top 5 all-time gross of the USA are Endhiran, Vishwaroopam, Sivaji, Dasavatharam and Kochadaiiyaan.

Back home, Vijay has set a new record in Karnataka with over 2 crores collection for the film on day 1 from 102 screens, which is his career best opening in the state. While reports from Kerala are awaited, trade pundits expect it beat Vijay’s Jilla, which is his career best in the state. Also, Kaththi has collected best ever opening day collections in Trichy – Tanjore for any Tamil film despite some screens pulling out in the last minute stating controversy.
