Eerie fun, at a cost
Overall Kanchana 2 has nothing big to complain, except for pace and tempo in the second half. It could have been a heavy laurel on Lawrence, nevertheless this is great fun.

The Muni series has been a trendsetter in terms of horror comedy, shaping up well enough to take huge crowds in to the theaters. The audience love this brand of entertainment that Raghava Lawrence brings, coupled with a bankable tech team and supporting artistes.
Raghava Lawrence has chosen the right path, and by holding the nerves of the audience he manages to tick his directional boxes every now and then. Kanchana 2 is a loud but perfect thriller with the cast and crew giving in apt performances, making Lawrence’s work easy. Without connecting anything from Kanchana, the sequel takes a different route in the storyline but doesn’t compromise on the thrills. Raghava Lawrence works as a camera man in a leading TV channel. Along with Tapsee, he plans a program to capture a fake thrill show in Mahabalipuram. Taking a big team along with the likes of Sriman, Manobala, Samsu and Mayilsamy, one would not place a doubt on the amount of laughter. The team start their shoot in a lonely bungalow while some startling incidents begin taking place. What happens later forms the crux of the story.
The first half is hilarious with both comedy and thrills for the audience, the frames are perfectly cut giving enough time for laughter and pushes you back to the seat with the thriller elements as well. Watching a thriller, if one is provided with all commercial elements too, it is considered a good job by the maker. Lawrence has pulled it off fairly easily from what he must have learned from his previous outings. The utilization of the cast and crew has fit the plot, with a special mention to Kovai Sarala who leaves you laughing out loud with her vocal modulations. The audience can’t complain and the stage set for the second half is perfect. The nail biting interval block will make you rush back to the seat for sure.
The second half reduces pace and to give out the flashback, it takes a laborious route forcing the audience to compare it with Kanchana and Muni. The introduction to the flash back itself sways time and loosens the grip that the first half nailed, the story travelling in a predictable. Nithya Menon does give some relief with her expressions and quietly exhibits her talents for sure. Lawrence comes as Mottai Siva and has performed the actions mostly depending on the CG. The BGM plays a major part and the songs have come out well, the intro song is a mass number introducing Elvin Lawrence, he performs much faster than the master and lots of work should be waiting ahead. On the editing front, late Kishore TE has given another work to be remembered. Overall Kanchana 2 has nothing big to complain, except for pace and tempo in the second half. It could have been a heavy laurel on Lawrence, nevertheless this is great fun.
