Kamal Haasan’s request to the central government

Kamal Haasan, who was invited as the chief guest at the closing ceremony of the second edition of film preservation and restoration workshop at the National Film Archive of India in Pune, put forward his request to the central government to contemplate setting up a dedicated institute of film preservation and digitisation in the name of PK Nair, the legendary film archivist and restorer who passed away on March 4th, 2016 after spearheading a gigantic task of collecting and preserving prints of 12,000 classic films.

Kamal Haasan also urged the government to set up separate centres of film archives in each state so that it will be useful for students who study cinema passionately. “Thanks 2 P.K.Nair saab as a film buff. 12000 films for us is the wealth he leaves behind. His work will be continued by those he inspired,” [SIC] tweeted Kamal Haasan.
