Kamal Haasan has voiced his opinion against the appointment of BJP member Gajendra Chauhan as chairperson of the governing council of the Film and Television Institute of India(FTII). The students have been protesting against the decision of central government for the past two months and the deadlock still continues.
“FTII is an institution that produces the finest cameramen, directors, artists. It’s a place where you are able to discover your creative expression
and create your own kind of cinema. What students need here is someone who can inspire them, someone they can look up to. There were so many stalwarts to choose from, so why him? I wouldn’t want to go to an institute headed by him. If it had to be someone from the ruling party, why not Paresh Rawal, Vinod Khanna? We’ll lose an institution where cinema is looked at as an art form,” says Kamal Haasan.
