Kamal Haasan, Tamannah, Amala from the southern film industry turned to Rashatrapathi Bhavan as the brand ambassadors of government’s ambitious Swachh Bharat (Clean India) Mission. “Long before independence, Gandhiji said that sanitation is as important as political freedom. Even 68 years after Independence, statistics regarding sanitation speak otherwise. Now is the time for action. Ambassadors can influence public to adopt sanitation practices. Besides generating awareness, Ambassadors can motivate public into effective actions through continuous involvement until each city is clean,” said President Pranab Mukherjee.
Others who shared the dias as brand ambassadors include Akhilesh Yadav, CM of Uttar Pradesh, Sachin Tendulkar, Shashi Tharoor, MP, Mridula Sinha, Governor of Goa, Kamal Hassan, Salman Khan, Prasoon Joshi, Shankar Mahadevan, cricketers Mohammad Kaif, Suresh Raina, Anil Ambani, spiritual leaders Baba Ramdev, Swami Subhakaranananda etc.
Clean India was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. It nears its first anniversary in less than a month.
