Kamal Haasan and Suriya’s tributes to Manorama
The entire Tamil film industry was left mourning yesterday after the most beloved, profilic and remarkable talent Aachi Manorama breathed her last in a private hospital in Chennai following a cardiac arrest. Kamal Haasan, one of her close associates and well-wishers and Suriya, with whom Manorama acted in her last Tamil screen appearance in Singham 2, share their heartfelt tributes to Aachi.
“She was more than an actress. You would never feel that she had seen 50 years of cinema. It felt like she was a family member, even on the sets. She was very caring towards everybody . The way she led her life was inspirational. From the beginning, she overcame her personal and family challenges, and made a significant contribution to the industry,” said Suriya.
“Manorama was a loving humanbeing and a great performer. I would say Manorama and Nagesh are the father and mother of Tamil cinema comedy. I am honoured that they both admired my work, commented on it, and cheered me on. They argued my case with my critics, behind my back. I am one among the millions of fans who’ll miss her,” said Kamal Haasan.
