Kabali dethrones Vedalam and Baahubali
Superstar Rajinikanth’s Kabali has dethroned Ajith Kumar’s Vedalam to become the all-time highest day one grosser in Tamil Nadu. The film has netted (gross=net, since entertainment tax was granted) Rs. 21.5 crores approximately, trumping Vedalam’s Rs. 15.5 crores day one record.
The weekend numbers will be crucial to the trade as the film has opened to middling reviews across the board. Including all versions, the film has netted Rs. 45+ crores reportedly in India on day one, the highest for any Indian film. The previous record was held by SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali which netted Rs. 42.1 crores approximately on its opening day in India.
