Debutant director PK Virumandi’s Ka.Pae.Ranasingam is an impactful and hard-hitting film that gets across its message in a very strong manner. The film has a lot of issues catering to its cast, emotional overdo and the length, but works in totality as a message deliverer that captures attention for sure.

Ka.Pae.Ranasingam is the story of a troubled wife who goes to great lengths to bring back the remains of her husband who passed away in a foreign country. With the truth being hidden from her and the system not supporting her one bit, the film throws the reality of such a situation being faced and the horrors that take place for the lower class. PK Virumandi has based his storyline on a chilling real-life event that will send shivers down anybody’s spine, and has managed to make an engaging film out of it.

Ka.Pae.Ranasingam’s main issue is in how the film is long drawn out with respect to its establishment and its emotions, which are always on a melodramatic overdose mode. However, what gets it going is Aishwarya Rajesh’s bloody good performance that tackles every scene like it should be, and gets us to the emotions behind the character. It is indeed a tour de force from the actress who gets a lot of scope to perform as the film progresses on, and puts the best foot forward in the climax. Apart from her, all the actors in the cast including Vijay Sethupathi do not make much of an impact. However, there is a nice cameo from Arunraja Kamaraj that is worth mentioning.

The film has decent visuals which are sometimes marred by the addition of stock footage and shaky cam which could have been avoided. Ghibran’s songs are rooted and rustic, but it is the BGM which does the bigger job of upping the intensity levels wherever required.

Had PK Virumandi worked on tightening his script and getting to the point in less than 20 minutes, Ka.Pae.Ranasingam would have worked out to be an even better film on the whole. Nevertheless, the film is definitely worth a watch for Aishwarya Rajesh’s excellent performance and the issue that it brings to the fore. Ka Pae Ranasingam Movie Review by Siddarth Srinivas
