An emotional whodunit mystery thriller of good standard

Actor Vetri is known for his interesting choice of films. 8 Thottakal and mainly Jiivi have given him a good space in the industry. Jothi is another fine pick from the actor. It’s a mystery thriller revolving around the shocking core theme of baby trafficking. The film’s emotional angle surrounds pregnant women and the pain that they feel when they lose their newborn babies. Sheela Rajkumar is really good in the powerful titular role. What happens to her & the whodunit factor is the main driving force of the first half. The revelations start to happen in the second half with some unexpected twists towards the end. It’s a focused thriller from debutant director AV Krishna Paramatma without any needless masala elements.
Vetri plays the young cop who leads the investigation. As usual, he presents a very minimalistic style of acting. Elango Kumaravel as the senior constable who supports Vetri in the investigation, does well. The producer of the film SP Raja Sethupathi has also done a key support character which is involved with the core story till the end. Krisha Kurup as Vetri’s wife brings out the pain of a woman who can’t give birth naturally.
Legendary singers like KJ Yesudass and Balram have crooned emotional tracks for the film, which has music by Harshavardhan Rameshwar.
Jothi may not have consistently good acting or great production values, but it’s a largely engaging fare. The core theme would connect particularly well with the women folk. Jothi Movie Review by Kaushik LM
